The first few teaching staff at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet were back at work this morning with the new teachers going through their induction day.

“It’s exciting to see the new people joining us,” said school principal Dr Benedikz who, along with Mr Spires and Mr Kouba has been back at work all week.

“We’ve got new teachers from Australia, UK, USA, France, and Sweden,” said Dr Benedikz. “I’m sure the 2nd and 3rd years will enjoy meeting them on August 23.”

For the first years, who start on August 19, everyone will be new!

Celebrating overall academic excellence

It was a day of excitement and celebration on Monday at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet as the third years finally graduated.

The third years are the last class to graduate who originally started when Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet was in Gubbängen.

“It’s been an exciting journey for them,” said Dr Benedikz, IEG principal. “We’ve gone from being a relative small school to quite a large school in a very short space of time.”

Amongst the graduating students three students in particular deserved special mention: Christina Roeck Hansen, Miriam Lukasiak, Madeleine Wahlström (pictures) graduated with a perfect score of 20; i.e. MVG in every subject.

“It’s a fabulous achievement,” said Dr Benedikz, who presented each of the girls with a certificate and iPod to mark their outstanding academic performance.

This week sees the Inter-House Football Competition at IEGS with students from each House preparing to show their silky skills with the ball.

Two teams from each House, one boys and one girls, will compete for the Football Trophy.

The end of term Christmas Show on Friday was an absolute blast!

Students from Pavlov and Russell and then King and Curie piled into the Aula to listen to a variety of performances by students.

First up was Sam, Dahlia & Co who put Christmas firmly on the agenda with a harmonious rendition of “All I want for Christmas”.

Theatre students Johanna O, John Leo, Jessica P, Ella S, Ikrah F and Heidi A were then next up with a brilliant piece of comedy as the lead went in search of an argument. Ikrah F stole the show with “the complaining room” although everyone did brilliantly.

Otto from Curie House then took to the stage to sing “Plush” and stunned everyone with his dulcet tones. Dr Benedikz was heard to comment, “What a brilliant voice.”

Anna Erlander then performed a song at the piano that she wrote only two weeks ago – “Wanting”. A seasoned IEG performer, Anna’s fans cheered and clapped along.

Working hard to keep the stage in order, Mr Sery and Mr Gelineo quickly prepared for the next act: Filip, Saga and Adele who performed the exquisite “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.

Surprise Appearance By 2 Teachers

The finalé saw some of IEG finest dancers take to the stage to perform a fushion of colour and dance. To the audience’s squeals of delight Mr Sery and Ms Jern made a surprise appearance and as the number drew to a close the audience cheered and applauded a wonderful spectacle.

“It was fantastic to see Mr Sery and Ms Jern on stage,” said Kin, a third year from Russell House.

“There are so many great voices and talents at the school,” Alex Baker said. “It really was a great show.”

Dr Benedikiz, school principal, was also delighted with the Christmas Show.

“It’s wonderful to see students come together and share their talents, celebrating the end of term with so much creativity and cultural diversity.”

Russell House, decked in t-shirts sporting the House logo, won this year’s House Song Contest with their very own rendition of Timberlake’s Sexy Back.

The competition was held in the aula at Åsö Gymnasiet and packed with students from IEG.

“We had to hold it there,” explained Dr Benedikz so we could get all the students in.

Russell were selected winners by an independent jury of three musicians.

The jury selected Russell House winners for their:

“house participation, overall performance, stage presence, conscious celebration of the individual, good vibrations, audience involvement, and variety.”

The Inter-House trophy was presented by Dr Margret Benedikz, IEGS Principal, to Jasmine Lund and Emmie T who led the Russell performance.

Congratulations to everyone at Russell, who clearly rock!
