Languages
At IEG Södermalm languages are important, not just because we’re an international school. We believe language is a vital tool for communication, reflection and learning.
The Language Department provides students with the means to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to be careful, considerate listeners in a variety of languages. As well as English and Swedish you can take up to 400 points in French or Spanish as part of either the NV or SP programme. You can also study Italian, German or Latin.

Languages at IEG feed into all the subjects we teach. Through the improvement of language skills students are able to better understand concepts and develop analytical skills in all subjects. This is important training for future university studies whether in Sweden or abroad.
Our teachers are highly qualified and share their international experience preparing students for active participation in today’s multi-cultural, global society.
Class work is varied and demands considerable involvement. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and develop their independence whilst working alongside supportive staff.
The teachers of the modern languages department are working to achieve a very important goal: to help pupils to attain a comprehensive, and well rounded communicative ability. This aim is in accordance with the guidelines of the school authorities in Sweden.
The ability to use a number of languages is important for international contact, and gives pupils the option to further their studies in other French and Spanish speaking countries. Language capability also increases the student’s employability once they have finished their studies in the ever growing international job market. To refer to Skolverket: “ [the] aim of the subject and its role in education [is that] a knowledge of languages is needed for studies, travelling in other countries and for social and vocational contacts of different kinds.”
We language teachers at Internationella Engelska Gymnasium Södermalm prepare our students so they can further truly develop their knowledge after completing the Gymnasiet.
We work in small groups to develop a student’s desire and ability to learn languages and increase their choices for life!
