Maths
The Maths Department at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet is a dynamic department committed to making the study of maths as accessible and enjoyable as possible.
As well as ordinary math classes, the department offers “Math Express” for students wishing to take a more advanced programme. Students wishing to take higher qualifications in maths are able to take the Cambridge International AS and A-level in Maths.
Teaching Staff

Mr Presland
Mr Presland (Head of Department): I was born and raised in a small rural community in Ontario, Canada. I earned my B. Math in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. I worked as a software engineer in Canada and New Zealand before travelling to different parts of the world for a year. After obtaining my PGCSE from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, I taught for one year before I moved to Sweden in 2005. I was the head of the Math Department at IES Bromma before taking on a similar role here at IEGS. I teach mathematics and computing.

Mr Afram
Mr Afram: Originally from Stockholm, my educational background is a degree in Physics (Fil. Mag.) from Uppsala University, while some of my studies were also completed in the USA. Before moving into teaching, I worked with software engineering for several years. I now have years of experience of teaching at different high schools in Sweden, but also of private tutoring. I currently teach mathematics and physics.

Mr Armstrong
Mr Armstrong: I was born in Alberta, Canada. I went to the University of Alberta, graduating in l981 with a degree in Teaching, majoring in PE and History. I subsequently went to the University of Victoria where I received a degree in Economics. In l989 I moved to Sweden with my wife and I have been working as a teacher since then.

Dr Miles
Dr Miles: I obtained my doctorate at UEA in England close to where I grew up by the coast. I subsequently worked as a Software Developer in London before returning to UEA as a Teacher and Research Associate. I also worked as research mathematician at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute in Vienna before moving to Sweden to take up a research position at KTH. As well as being a teacher at IEGS, I am now an Honorary Senior Research Associate at UEA.

Mr Olson
Mr Olson: I am originally from a rural community in Canada. I obtained my MA in Education and a BA in Mathematics from Lindenwood University. Having previously worked for Northern College’s School of Welding Technology I moved to Sweden in 2006 to reconnect with my Swedish roots. I am currently developing a website, http://markolson.ca, where I share my interests in photography, blogging, developing math resources, and helping incorporate SAGE Math, http://sagemath.org, into the upper secondary math curriculum.

Dr Pol
Dr Pol: Originally from Poland, I have a variety of interests including travelling, tennis, poetry and medieval architecture. I have a Masters degree in Theoretical Philosophy, a Ph. D. in Philosophy and a Masters of Education. I currently teach mathematics, physics and philosophy at IEGS.
