Mr Phil Spires, the assistant principal, is responsible for student care. An ex-policeman, management consultant and dab hand on the basketball court, Mr Spires meets regularly with students to ensure they’re progressing with their studies. When problems occur, Mr Spires steps in to ensure your studies don’t suffer.

Part of my job,” says Mr Spires, “involves liaising between teachers and pupils that are sick or absent from school for long periods for one reason or another. I make sure students don’t fall behind so that they can carry on with their studies when they’re back at school.”

Mr Spires also oversees the school’s Mentor Programme, which allocates each student to a member of staff for the duration of their time at IEGS.

“The idea is that each student should have regular contact with their mentor. Mentors help maintain contact between the school and parents (for students under the age of 18) and between the school and students,” says Mr Spires.

In addition to Mr Spires and the school’s team of mentors, IEGS employs a nurse and councillor to help students ensure that their physical and psychological well-being is maintained.

Studying at senior high school can be a daunting experience for some. That’s why IEGS provides the right kind of support to help you concentrate on performing to the very best of your potential.
