Pic of the Week is a day late this week because of Open House. Still, the photo was worth waiting for. It’s of Mr Kühn and Ms Fuster Valles showcasing the new Russell House sign.
So which is the best House sign in the school now? Your thoughts please?

It’s definitely the Pavlov house logo that is the best, it relates much more to what Pavlov actully was. Not a K with an insect crawling upwards on it? or is it a bacteria? can’t really see

Unfortunately, the Pavlov logo lacks much of the subtlety that marks that of the Social Scientist houses. (While Curie certainly stands out in its directness, it is also this bluntness that disqualifies them from proper consideration.
) I mean, a “P” with pawmarks all around it?
Consider then, the Russell or the King logo. Instead of making a direct reference to its namesake, these instead prefer to use symbolism and imagery to convey their meaning and relevance to the usage. The Russell logo, for instance, use a leaf: an image of nature, as well as a return to the wild or to the essentials of the matter. This, perhaps more than anything is what our dear Bertrand was all about: no-nonsense, down-to-earth pragmatism and reason. (Although if I personally were to make a suggestion, I would have referred to the space teapot.)
Finally, the King house uses the white dove: a modern symbol of peace, as well as a Biblical reference to the dove that carried the olive branch back to the Ark, so as to lead the way to the land. This dove represents leaders and wayfinders – which truly was what the houses namesake was: a guiding light and a beacon to emancipation and rightfulness.
