Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet students and three teachers spent a week in March i Krakow, Poland undertaking a series of educational visits. The trip was open to students taking History or Geography B and organized by the Social Science Department.
Whilst in Krakow the students had a very busy itinerary. The first day was spent visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. This was a powerful emotional experience for many students. On the second day a visit was paid to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO World heritage site. In the afternoon the Old Town of Krakow, another UNESCO World Heritage site was visited. All the major highlights were fitted into the guided tour such as the Main Market Square (the largest medieval square in Europe), the splendid St. Mary’s Basilica with Europe’s biggest medieval altar and Wawel Hill with the magnificent Royal Castle and the Cathedral. On the third day the group returned to Stockholm, enriched by the many experiences shared on the trip.
Presentations & Discussions
During the trip the students were encouraged to process and reflect upon the various sites they visited. Upon returning to school the students who had participated in the trip gave presentations and hosted discussions with the other students in their classes. The general feeling has been that the trip was a hugely enriching experience and many students hope to have an opportunity to visit Poland again.
