Meet the Principal

Dr. Rachel Heimeier has been the Principal for Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet since August 2013. She was previously the Principal of Internationella Engelska Skolan in Uppsala, a school for grades 4 through 9, which she inaugurated in 2011. 

As a South African-born Australian, Dr. Heimeier has experienced the transition of moving from one country to another as a child, adult and professional. Before coming to Sweden, she lived in South Africa, Australia and the United States. She holds a PhD in Life Sciences and a Masters of Education. 

With experience accumulated from academia, scientific institutes and education in the last 20 years, Dr. Heimeier knows the importance of fostering a constructive work environment, to be highly versatile, willing to take on challenges and to be fearless of change. 

Dr. Heimeier strives to promote an inclusive learning environment where teachers and students can become the best versions of themselves. Together with her team she continues to develop the academic profile at IEGS and provides opportunities for students to develop academically and socially within her school.
