Congratulations Ms Raja, first winner of The Ellinor/Dr Tekle Award for teachers

The Scholarship Fund in Memory of Ellinor Carlsson is ordained to annually grant scholarships to students at Internationella Engelska Skolan who have shown exceptional persistence and lives according to Ellinor’s motto “To never give up”. This award has been titled the Grit Award, and has been handed out since 2016 (https://www.facebook.com/ellinorsstipendiefond/).

Dr Tekle, one of Ellinors teachers at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm (IEGS), motivated and encouraged her during her studies; something that Ellinor reflected on as having a positive impact in her learning journey. With this in mind, the foundation is recognising this year the key role that teachers play in students' lives by awarding a teacher at IEGS with “The Ellinor/Dr Tekle award”. The recipient of the award must be nominated by IEGS students. Dr Tekle goes on to say that “Ellinor was a dream student, her biggest quality was that you achieve anything just by not giving up. I was extremely honoured to be part of this award with Ellinor. We are all champions, in one way or another and we do a lot for our students, many of whom realise this after they have graduated, this makes all winners”.

“There is no other profession that gives more than that of a teacher. He can never tell where his influence stops. This award is not given to the best teacher, the coolest, most popular or best looking” said Mr Carlsson. This teacher “ motivates and encourages her students to try tasks that seem impossible, and if we fail she not only tells us to try again but she shows us how to use the failed attempts to succeed” a nomination from one student.

Today at Mösspåtagningen, Ms Roshni Raja was honoured with this first of kind, special award. Ms Raja joined IEGS as a Senior Science Teacher almost 10 years ago, when she moved to Sweden from the UK. Ms Raja leads the Science Department of IEGS and teaches in both the Swedish National Programmes and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

“It is an honour to win such an award and thank you to all those students who nominated myself and other teachers. We as teachers see so many students who share Ellinor's motto of "never give up" on a daily basis and so many of our staff are behind these students, supporting and providing the guidance and encouragement they need to flourish. Therefore, I would like to acknowledge all staff at IEGS when accepting this award”, Ms Raja.

Congratulations again Ms Raja!
