On Saturday, Internationella Engelska Skolan celebrated its 25th anniversary of providing quality education to students in Sweden. I was honoured to be amongst the 400 plus guests gathered in the Blue and Gold Halls of City Hall in Stockholm to celebrate IES and the success of our founder Ms Barbara Bergström. What an amazing person and entrepreneur. It was a magical evening of festivities. A superb dinner fit for noble laureates. Outstanding entertainment from IES alumni, staff, student choirs and performers. Not to mention our founding mother herself who bedazzled us with a performance in a full cowgirl outfit before transforming into an elegant mystery woman in a sparkling evening gown.
One can only wonder what the early years of the organization would have been like back in 1993 with only a handful of students and parents believing in Ms Bergström and her school. Since then, IES has forged a reputation for itself, providing high quality education in a bilingual environment (English and Swedish), in a safe and calm learning environment to students throughout Sweden. Today, IES is the largest free school organization at the compulsory level in the country, with over 24 000 students attending our 34 school. On a more local note, we at IEGS celebrate 10 years since we introduced the House System into our high school, and since we moved to our current location in Södermalm. Furthermore, IEGS being an IB-world school, we commemorate 50 years of education with the IB organization this year. With all of these milestones, this will surely be a year to remember!
