Applying to IEGS
Thank you for your interest in Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm (IEGS).
Making a decision about your gymnasium studies is a very important one, one that you will carry during your three years of gymnasiet studies and with you onto future studies.
At IEGS we have both the National Program (NP) and the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), providing students with the opportunity to chose what suits them best. The national program currently offers four program choices with different specialisations. You can read more about our different programs including the IB here. All our programs qualify students for university studies in Sweden or abroad. In addition, all courses, with the exception of Swedish, Civics A, Law and Modern Languages, are taught in English. Students must have passed their obligatory year 9 studies in order to qualify for both the National program and the IB program, students applying to the IB however do not need a grade in the Swedish language.
Applying to a Swedish Gymnasium Programme (upper-secondary)
Although our courses are taught in English, IEGS is a Swedish school and therefore follows the same guidelines as any other Swedish gymnasium. For example, if you wish to take one of the Swedish national programmes, you are required to have passed English, Math and Swedish in Grade 9 or its equivalent (ex. through Sofia Distans). All applicants from abroad MUST start in Year 1 and are required to meet the requirements that are needed to start a Swedish national gymnasium programme.
For any questions relating to applications, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that if you have already completed or started the first year of gymnasium and would like to transfer IEGS joining in the second year you will need to apply directly to the school. You can find more information here.
Applying to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme
Students who have not graduated 9th grade with a passing grade in Swedish can only apply to the IB Programme at IEGS. Students are not required to have any grade in Swedish; however, you are still required to apply through Gymnasieantagningen.
You will also be required to submit an entrance exam in English run by the school.
You will receive more information after you have applied!
